The "Béla Vikár" Mixed Choir of Kaposvár was originally formed in 1924 as the Kaposvár Choir of Industry Workers.The Choir's aims were as follows creating coherence between workers by spending their spare time in a useful way, participation in patriotic festivities and having individual concerts. In 1949 the choir won the title of "Excellent Choir". Later the choir was united with the "KIOSZ" Men's Choir and with the Teachers' Choir of Kaposvár.In 1952 the united choir won the first prize on a competition which was held on the occasion of the National General Assembly of OKISZ.In 1962 the choir took the name "Béla Vikár". With its activity the choir has been trying to preserve the name of the famous Hungarian etnographer and folksong collector.Since 1964 the choir has been conducted by Zsolt Zákányi, a well-known conductor even in those days owing to his results gained with his children's choir. In 1968 the choir got the title "Excellent Ensemble" Since then the choir has regularly has concert opportunities at the Hungarian Radio and Was invited to Bulgaria for a couple of concerts.Since 1980 the choir has taken part in international competitions and festivals every year.The concustor, Zsolt Zákányi received Liszt - and Leo Weiner - awards for his activity.Since 2001. the Choir has been conductad by Géza Ludmány, honoured teacher at he Teacher's Training College of Kaposvár. The choir regularly presents musical works from all parts of music history. They sing a capella as well as oratorial pieces.The choir considers of great importance to present regularly the pieces of Zoltán Kodály and Lajos Bárdos.
